PART A ; Introducion to jurong lake park
Introduction :
Jurong lake park is a freshwater lake loacted in the western region of Singapore. The lake serves as a reservoir contributing to the water supply of the country. It lies next to the Lakeside MRT Station , which derived its name from this geographical feature. The lake is surrounded by parkland , which serves as a recreational ground for nearby residents in Jurong East and Jurong West New Town. There are several tourist attraction located near or even within the Lake, including a Chinese Garden and a Japanese Garden , which are located on their respective islands within the lake, as well as the nearby Tang Dynasty Village, which has since closed down. A landscaped sanctuary called Jurong Lake Park was built around the perimeter of the lake and work was completed in January 2006. Also, a 2.8 kilometre water promenade along Jurong Lake Park would allow residents to participate in watersports. As is the case for most other reservoirs in Singapore , swimming is currently illegal in the lake, although this may change in line with the Singapore government's liberalisation of the use of bodies of water in the republic. Fishing is now allowed in some designated spots around the lake where only artificial baits can be used for fishing. However, the water is noted to be green in colour during dry weather and a murky brown after a downpour, the likely result of runoff from its urban catchment area. Many people for different ways of life come here to enjoy the peacefulness too.
Group Members Reflection on the trip to Jurong Lake Park .
Natasha ;
I felt that the trip to Jurong Lake Park was very interesting as I found out that a lot of species of animals and plants that I did not know existed at Jurong Lake Park . Such as the apple snail egg which I was most fascinated by . It was very fun yet educational , I got to learn many things out of the classroom . :)
YanShan ;
I think that the trip to Jurong Lake Park was very rewarding and I believed everyone learnt a lot about the environment . We saw human activities like people who went there to fish at the fishing jetties . I spotted different species of animals like the apple snail egg , spiders , lizard , ants and many more . I have learnt that we should all conserve the environment and appreciate it before it gets destroyed due to pollution , deforestation and the many human activities , such as , fishing , which will lead to the decrease in the population , thus interrupting the food chain of animal species . Also , kayaking , whereby people tend to throw their litter into the sea as a matter of being convenient . I also realized that although there is a bin every few meters of walking distance , visitors of the park still find it a hassle to walk over and hence , explaining the litter on the ground . I HOPE THAT PEOPLE WILL MAKE THE EFFORT TO WALK TO THE BIN WITH THEIR LITTER . Take it as a form of exercise and not pollute the environment any further (:
~Justin~ ;
I really learnt a lot from this trip to jurong lake park. Some of which includes the different types of ferns, trees and animals. However, all these beautiful organisms may be destroyed if people using the park for various purposes continue to litter whenever and wherever they want. I hope that the people can be more considerate and automatic so as to throw the rubbish away to prevent the death of animals if they happen to chew on them.
Anna ; During our trip there , we discovered many creatures that we did not realise it existed there. Some of them are like the eggs of the apple snail and the orange fungus. It was a very hot then , thus we had a hard time taking photos as they were all hiding in thier habitat to take cover. We also learnt how to distunguish a ripe and unripe pong pong. There were people there fishing even though they was a sign board saying no fishing is allowed. Construction site was also nearby and that maybe the reason to the murky water. Litters of human presence was also in the water polluting it. This made us felt very disappointed as jurong lake is a place where people find peacefulness and not a place full of litters. So play a part in saving the earth eco system for our future generation (:
